If your internet is slower than usual, websites are taking longer to load, or videos are buffering, follow these steps:
Note: Internet speeds may drop between 5 pm and 10 pm due to high usage. You can find more about our speed guarantees [here]
1. Check Device and Speed
- Test Your Speed: Go to Speedtest.net to check your download and upload speeds. Make sure no other devices are using the internet, and you are close to the router (within 2 meters) for an accurate result.
- Compare Speeds: Check if your current speeds match our guarantees.
- Device-Specific Issues: If only one device is slow, the problem might be with that device.
2. Check Your Wi-Fi Signal
- Signal Strength: Are you far from the router? A weak Wi-Fi signal (1 or 2 bars) can slow down your internet. Try moving closer to the router.
3. Look for Wi-Fi Interference
- Potential Interference: Devices like printers, baby monitors, and weather stations can interfere with Wi-Fi signals.
- Test for Interference: Run a speed test using Wi-Fi, then another test with an Ethernet cable directly connected to your router. If the speeds are very different, there might be interference.
- Move Devices: If a device like a printer is near your router, move it a few meters away and test again.
Do you have any WIFI extenders? Try turning those off and test from the Lightwire router.
Just drop us an email at support@lightwire.co.nz with your speed test results and any other info you have. We’ll take a look and figure out the best way to help boost your speeds!
