About your SIM card
What it does, how it helps, and what to do if something goes wrong.
Your SIM card holds the key details that connect your phone to the mobile network.
Once it’s in a compatible phone, you can access your calls, texts, and data services.
It can also store contact information, depending on your phone and setup.
Security matters
Your SIM card is protected with a PIN to help prevent unauthorised access.
It also helps keep your mobile connection secure.
SIM card features
- Store up to 250 phone numbers and names, alongside your phone’s own storage
- Take your phonebook with you if you move to another phone
- If your SIM is not active, the network may stop trying to connect until your phone is refreshed
📱 Quick step: If your SIM isn’t connecting, try turning Flight Mode on and off, or restart your phone to refresh the connection.
Troubleshooting
If something doesn’t look right, here are the most common issues and what to do next.
I can’t get into my phone and it says I need a PUK code
If you enter the wrong SIM PIN three times, your SIM will be temporarily locked.
You may see messages like “Card Error” or “Emergency Calls Only”.
To get your PUK code, contact Lightwire and we’ll help you.
It’s best to have your phone with you when entering the code.
For security, try not to write the PUK code down. If you do, make sure you dispose of it safely once you’re done.
If the wrong PUK code is entered 10 times, the SIM will be permanently disabled and you’ll need a replacement SIM.
My SIM card can’t be read
Start with these quick checks:
Check for physical damage
If the SIM looks damaged, contact Lightwire for a replacement.
Check for water damage
If the SIM has been exposed to water, contact Lightwire for a replacement.
If there’s no obvious damage, try these steps:
- Check that your account is active
- Turn Flight Mode on, wait a few seconds, then turn it off again
- Turn your phone off for 10 seconds, then turn it back on
- Try the SIM in another device. If it works there, your current phone may be the issue
- Reset your phone’s network settings and make sure the SIM is sitting properly
If you’re still having trouble, you may need to factory reset your phone or contact Lightwire for help.
