Bringing your number to Lightwire is simple.
This page walks you through what to expect, what you’ll need, and how to get set up.
Most customers are up and running quickly, with just a few simple steps.
Keep your number, follow the steps, and we’ll handle the transfer in the background.
Remember to:
- Make sure your phone is charged
- Keep your current SIM until your number transfer is complete
- Double check your account details before you submit your request
Get started
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A Lightwire internet connection
- Your current provider details
- Your phone with you
Then, head to the Mobile tab in your Home portal to start your Lightwire Mobile Order
Get your SIM and phone ready
Choose the option that works best for you, then make sure your phone is ready to go.
eSIM (recommended)
- Fastest option
- Get connected straight away
- No waiting for delivery
Physical SIM
- We’ll courier it to you
- You can get started once it arrives
- Please keep your current SIM until your number transfer is complete
Check if your phone supports eSIM
To quickly determine if your phone supports eSIM, *dial #06# on your keypad; if an EID (Embedded Identity Document) number appears alongside the IMEI, your device is compatible.
If you’re unsure, search “Is [your phone model] eSIM compatible” online.
What you’ll need from your current provider
If you're on Prepay
If you top up your mobile rather than paying a monthly bill, you’ll need either:
- SIM ID, found on the SIM card
- ICCID number
If you're on a monthly plan
If you receive a monthly bill, please have these ready:
- Account name
- Account number
Find your ICCID
You’ll only need this if you’re moving your number from a Prepay service.
Your ICCID is a number linked to your SIM.
On most phones, you can usually find it in your settings:
- Go to Settings
- Look for About Phone or General
- Find ICCID in the list
If you can’t see it, the easiest option is to search online for:
“Find ICCID on [your phone model]”

Request your Lightwire Mobile
Once you have completed the order for with all of the required details, agreed to all terms and conditions and reviewed your charge summary, submit your Lightwire Mobile order and proceed to the next steps
Set up your phone
For eSIM
- Follow the setup email and text message
Head to the My Mobile page in the customer portal, click ‘Confirm Port’ next to your new service to transfer your number
- Reply YES to the confirmation text message to complete your number transfer (more details on this below)
For pSIM
Once, you receive the SIM in the mail, insert the SIM into your device
Head to the My Mobile page in the customer portal, click the ‘Confirm Provisioning’ button next to your new service to provision the SIM
Then, click ‘Confirm Port’ to transfer your number
Reply YES to the confirmation text message to complete your number transfer (more details on this below)
Confirming your number transfer
You’ll get a text message asking you to confirm that you want to move your number to Lightwire.
Reply YES within 2 hours to continue. If you do not reply within 2 hours, you will need to set the port up again and retry it. You can reach out to our team for help with this too
This helps protect your number and makes sure nothing happens without your approval.
Your current service will continue as normal until you confirm the transfer.
There is no charge to reply to these messages.

What happens next
Your service may briefly drop while your number is being transferred.
This is normal and usually only lasts a short time.
You’ll get a confirmation once your number has successfully moved to Lightwire.
Once the transfer is complete, your Lightwire Mobile service will be ready to use.
📱 Quick step: Your service won't come through straight away, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds, then turn it off again to refresh your connection.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to switch my number?
Most number transfers are completed quickly, but timing can vary depending on your current provider and whether all your details match.
Will I lose service while my number is switching?
You may have a short drop in service while the transfer is being completed. This is normal and usually only lasts a short time.
What happens if I don’t reply YES?
Your number transfer won’t go ahead until you confirm it.
You may still be billed by both Lightwire and your previous provider until the transfer is completed.
If the transfer isn’t confirmed within a certain time, your number may not be held and could become available again.
Replying YES helps protect your number and makes sure the transfer only happens with your approval.
If you’re using a physical SIM, please keep it until you’ve received confirmation that your number has successfully moved to Lightwire.
What if I change my mind?
You’re in control. Your number won’t move until you reply YES to the confirmation message.
Can I switch my number later?
Yes. If you’re not ready right now, you can come back and request Lightwire Mobile when it suits you.
Do I have to use eSIM?
No. If your phone supports eSIM, it’s usually the fastest option. If not, you can choose a physical SIM instead.
What if my details don’t match with my current provider?
If the details you provide don’t match what your current provider has on file, your number transfer may be delayed or declined. Double check your account name, account number, SIM ID, or ICCID before you submit your request.
