Lightwire VOIP FAQ's

Can I keep my existing phone number?
Yes! We can bring your number over to Lightwire. Taking your existing number with you is called porting. You can learn more about porting here 

Will my phone work if there is a power cut?
No it won't. Just like your computer needs power, so too does your VoIP phone service.

Do I need to use a special phone?
No. Any standard phone should be able to connect to your internet phone line,  You will need an RJ11 Cable. The phone cable will plug into the phone port on the back of your router. 

If you only have BT Cables/Ports you can purchase an adapter from The Warehouse, Noel Leeming etc

Does my VoIP line use my data?
No, our phone service does not count toward your monthly data allowance.

Will my Security Alarm work with VOIP?

We cannot guarantee that your alarm will function over our service. These are usually wired in with traditional copper phone lines which we do not service. There are alternatives, such as an mobile network or IP module.

We recommend seeking advice from your alarm company or other such security professional to discuss your best option.
