If your first bill is higher than expected, it will be because of a pro-rata charge.
A pro-rata charge is a part charge on your bill for a service you used for only part of a month.
If you are new to Lightwire or have made changes to your service, you may notice two charges for the same service on your invoice.
A pro-rata charge may occur because:
- Lightwire charges for services a month in advance.
- You have upgraded your plan part-way through the month.
- Your connection date (the date you start using Lightwire’s services) usually differs from the start of your billing cycle.
The difference between your connection date and billing cycle date creates a part-month adjustment, resulting in a pro-rata charge.
For example:
Maddison joined Lightwire and had her internet connected on the 23rd September. Lightwire’s billing cycle starts on the 1st of each month. Maddison will be charged pro-rata for the 8 days connected in September.
Her first invoice won’t be received until the 1st business day of October. This invoice will show a full month charge for October as we bill in advance and a pro-rata charge for the days used in September.
