Why is my speed fluctuating?

The speed of a Rural wireless connection is determined by many different factors such as signal quality to the tower and local interference issues. There may also be congestion issues or other known network events that our engineering team are working to resolve.

Lightwire discourages customers from focusing on particular speed expectations but rather whether all their common services such as email, web browsing, Skype and video on demand are running to their satisfaction. Ultimately a specific speed doesn't matter as long as all these services run well.

The speed of a connection can also be dependent on a number of factors that are out of Lightwire's control. For example - you may be finding that a specific website or online service is slow to load, but it may be an issue at the other end which Lightwire cannot do anything about.

It is also worth noting that you will generally get a much more consistent connection quality by plugging directly in to the supplied router with a network cable. Connecting wirelessly can be less reliable, but in some cases it is the only option you have. If this is the case and you want to improve wireless quality you do have the option of asking your IT person to recommend a solution.
